We’re a little late this month due to code fixes to the site and the lack of material the last few weeks. First, for those of you who were unable to place your orders, our apologies; our internet gateway payment provider altered the required fields without notification or documentation and it took our developer a while to determine what the new requirements were. You can now place and process orders. The only glitch still remaining is for memberships. For some reason it directs everything to PayPal. We should have this sorted out soon as well.

Now about pictures! We’ve been puzzled about how few birds there are in our area this spring compared to last spring. We have been haunting all of the usual spots but there have been no birds. This weekend we made a two-hour trip to Lake Walcott near Rupert, Idaho. We were fortunate to see many pelicans and a pair of grebes but nothing else. That prompted me to call the Idaho Fish and Game to make an inquiry. What I learned was that last year was unusual. Due to the late snow and heavy spring rains the migration season was pushed out a month. This year we missed the season completely.

So, we’ll have a look at pelicans and a few more shots from the Alaska trip.  Lake Walcott is a reservoir on the Snake River and the pelicans are thick near the dam and downstream for about a mile. We arrived about 4:30 pm and the sun was perfect. We had the sun to our backs and plenty of birds to track.

This week we head out for Yellowstone. The harlequin ducks should be in the park along with pelicans, grizzly, black bears and of course elk and bison. We’ll swing by the Tetons on the way out to see if we can find any moose and perhaps blue grouse. We should have plenty to share with you for the next issue!
